Hospital Signage Requirements

Hospital signage requirements may include some things that are not required in all public buildings. Directional or wayfaring products are going to need to be posted throughout the building so people can easily navigate the halls. Whether they are wooden, metal, or plastic signs, or something else entirely, the placards posted throughout this building are going to need to be easy to read and the directions will need to be easy to follow. The same goes for those posted on the outside of the building because people need to be able to find the entrances they need to use.

On the outside of the building, the hospital signage will include some sort of main identification.  This will help identify the location and direct people to the site. Many of these have internal illumination to make them easier to see at night.

There are also directional products designed for the exterior of the building. These might have arrows directing the pedestrian or driver in the direction he needs to go in order to get to the particular part of the hospital he is looking for.

Then, there is individual hospital signage for any individual buildings. On a larger campus or compound, individual buildings might have their names on them, for easier navigation of the grounds. These can be made from several different materials.

Signs for parking can help indicate where patients or visitors should head when they get to the campus. Clearly marked placards can help save people a lot of frustration. It can be quite aggravating to pull up close to the entrance door that one is expected to use, only to find that there is no close parking. Well marked information can save people a lot of hassle and increase their good will. In addition to hospital signage for parking, there could be outdoor directories. This will save people the hassle of having to wander around inside the building in order to figure out where they are supposed to be. They can check the outdoor information, and at least be better prepared for the general direction of where they are headed. This could also include a map.

Once inside, there are still more than just a few options. Wayfaring placards will help point the direction for a particular room or office. Overhead products can be combined with these and interior directory products, to help keep people moving in the right direction. As clearly marked as many things should be, some things stand out from the rest as being imperative to mark well. Locations of fire extinguishers and fire exits are among these things, and choosing the most obvious options can make for a big difference in the tragic case that they ever need to be used for a real fire.

Even though there are requirements and guidelines regarding hospital signage, there are still things that can be done to give a custom look to an individual building. Talking to someone at the purchasing company can help answer any questions, and get the perfect products ordered.
